SECTION 1 — Reflection on Learning Explain:
-
What I learned about myself in this placement
-
How has this changed my attitudes, beliefs, or understanding as an EA
-
How have I grown emotionally, professionally, or personally
During this placement at an elementary School, I learned a great deal about myself as a developing Educational Assistant. I discovered that I am calm, patient, and able to stay focused even when situations feel unpredictable. Working with students from JK to Grade 6 showed me how differently children respond to structure, communication, technology, and emotional support. I realized that relationship-building is foundational; students learn best when they feel safe, respected, and understood. I also became more aware of how my own tone, posture, and confidence influence whether students and staff respond positively. My experiences with communication challenges and behaviour situations helped me understand the importance of teamwork, self-awareness, and asking for guidance. This placement strengthened my belief that being an EA requires not only technical skills but compassion, reflection, and a willingness to grow every day.
